PCCA Formulation Challenge at
International Seminar 2019
As members of the pharmacy compounding industry, we are all constantly driven to think of innovative solutions for patient problems. To continue inspiring creativity, the PCCA Research and Development team is launching the first-ever formula creation competition in our industry — and you’re invited to participate!
How To Enter
All PCCA members are eligible for this competition. To enter, choose an innovative formula your pharmacy has developed using a PCCA base and PCCA ingredients, and successfully used to help patient(s). Then, submit your formula by Monday, August 5, 2019, to the PCCA Research and Development team. Formula submissions will be held in confidence and will remain the intellectual property of the developer.
An internal panel will review all submissions by the end of August and select five finalists (based on their level of creativity and ability to develop a formula from scratch) to participate in the Formulation Challenge at International Seminar 2019. Each finalist will receive three full-size bases as a preliminary prize. They will also be able to select another employee from their pharmacy to team up with them for the live competition. At least one team member must be a licensed pharmacist. Both team members must be registered for International Seminar 2019. Registration fees and travel expenses are the responsibility of the contestants and will not be covered by PCCA.
The Formulation Challenge will be held LIVE at International Seminar 2019 — finalists will compete in teams of two on Friday, October 11, at the Hilton Americas-Houston. Teams will be presented with a mystery “patient” and have access to a pantry of ingredients. They will have 90 minutes to create a topical formula for the patient’s condition using the provided ingredients, equipment and supplies. Teams will then present their finished formulation to a panel of judges. Teams will be judged on the following criteria: design, creativity/originality, use of ingredients, success of formula, and teamwork. The winning team will be announced from main stage on Saturday, October 12.
